Tweenie Room

At our nursery in Blackburn the Tweenie Room caters for children aged between 2 to 3 years. The staff ratio in this age range is 1 member of staff to 4 children.

Our staff in the Tweenie Room work together to plan activities that promote all areas of development based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. These activities include: painting, cutting, messy play, music and movement, sand and water play, construction, basic numbers, shape and mark making.

To develop your child’s social skills the Tweenies sometimes meet with the Pre-School Children at meal times. We feel this is an important experience for your child’s development.

Taking into account the children’s advancing development, the routine in this room is slightly more structured in respect of learning and play. Our aim is to develop learning through positive interest and enjoyment in a more coordinated fashion.

As your child is now becoming more mobile, the range of toys and equipment available are specifically chosen for your child’s individual and changing needs. These include more table top activities as well as floor toys. Our tabletop activities reflect this with threading, colour sorting and a wider range of more complex puzzles, shape sorters and construction toys. The home corner and the  sand and water areas will stimulate imaginations and encourage children to discover independent learning for themselves. Not forgetting how young they are, those who still benefit from a daytime nap will have the opportunity for a sleep / quiet time and join the babies after lunch.

Tweenies also have daily access to our interactive ICT screen situated in pre-school. This helps to develop early computer skills.

Your child will have their own key worker during their time in the Tweenie room.  Your child’s key worker will work with them to achieve their full potential and these observations will be recorded in your child’s Learning Journal.

Of course, our key workers will always look forward to working with you as and when your child is ready to start toilet training!
